Volatility describes how much a game's results swing: low-volatility games pay small amounts often, high-volatility games pay larger amounts less often.
Two games can have the same RTP and very different volatility. Volatility affects how a session feels and how quickly a balance can rise or fall, not the long-run return.
In crash and pick games, players partly choose their own volatility. Cashing out early at low multipliers wins small and often; holding out for high multipliers wins big and rarely. In Vault, the mode sets the risk per round: Easy (3 of 5 vaults hold gold) is lower risk than Hard (1 of 5).
Operators often balance a lobby with games of different volatility, because some players prefer frequent small wins and others prefer rare large ones.
One player always cashes out at 1.20x and wins most rounds; another waits for 10x and wins rarely. Over enough rounds their expected return is the same.
